DELAWARE COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE: New Logo Unveiled for Phantoms Athletics

Delaware1

Delaware County Community College issued the following announcement.

Delaware County Community College’s department of Wellness, Athletics & Recreation recently unveiled a new brand identity for the College’s athletic teams known as the Phantoms.

The new comprehensive Phantoms brand, which will establish consistency across the athletic department, consists of a family of logo marks including the primary logo mark, secondary, word, visual and letter marks. The new visual identity will be applied to all athletics branding needs including facilities, sports uniforms, promotional initiatives, apparel, merchandise, communications and the website.

The year-long rebranding process included soliciting feedback from various College stakeholders, including administrative staff, student-athletes, students-at-large and coaches. The athletics logo was last updated in the mid-1990s.

“We are very excited to launch this new look for Phantoms’ athletics,” said Sara Steinman, director of Wellness, Athletics & Recreation. “The rebranding is a huge step toward elevating our athletic programs in a positive direction and cultivating a culture of excellence for our student-athletes. The goal for the new Phantoms logo, designed by Phoenix Design Works, is to help boost school spirit among our teams and the student body, while establishing a consistent brand for athletics.”

Aiming to show a visible connection between the athletics logo and the College logo, the new Phantoms design features a flame cloaking the figure in a spirit of mystery. “We are grateful to have been able to work with everyone at the College to create the new Phantoms visual identity,” said Jamie Skiles, Phoenix Design Works’ president & creative director. “We are proud to have helped make a little bit of Phantoms history. It’s been very rewarding working with the team at the College to create the new Phantoms brand.”

Hoping to strike fear into the minds of its opponents, the College, soon after its inception in 1967, selected the Phantom to represent its athletic programs through the help of input from students and faculty, with the original logo illustration making its debut around 1970.
