A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Coatesville Police Pension Fund on September 20, 2024. The request was made by Central Chester Today, a media organization dedicated to delivering comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request sought records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, specifically asking for a list of all active employees and retired employees included in the organization's pension fund for the year of 2023. The requested data fields include personal details such as last name, first name, middle name, date of birth; employment details like employer name, employment start date, employment end date; financial information including salary, compensation type, amount, year; and pension specifics such as process date, last disbursement amount, disbursement frequency and 2023 contribution amount.
As members of the media community at Central Chester Today, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
