Delaware County Community College issued the following announcement.
Delaware County Community College’s new Center for Equity and Social Justice will hold the first in a series of “Dialogues for Diversity” from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 28. The topic of the first dialogue will be “Policing and Our Communities.”
Speakers scheduled to participate in the dialogue are: Wayne E. Croft, Sr., D. Min., Ph.D., pastor of Saint Paul’s Baptist Church in West Chester; Dr. Merrill Irving, Jr., president of Hennepin Technical College in Minnesota; Attorney Enrique Latoison, 2020 Delaware County Community College Alumni Professional Achievement Award recipient; Yeadon Borough Police Chief Anthony Paparo; Delaware County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Danielle Pettyjohn; and Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer.
“The recent events involving police officers have created outrage throughout the country,” said Delaware County Community College President Dr. L. Joy Gates Black. “This dialogue will be an opportunity to hear from local officers and community leaders as they discuss issues and concerns from multiple perspectives. Additionally, the dialogue will allow for an open question-and-answer session with our panelists. It is so important that our local law enforcement hear the voices of the people of Delaware and Chester counties.”
The College’s newly created Center for Equity and Social Justice is designed to encourage courageous, respectful community conversations about the sensitive, often controversial issues of racism and social injustice. The Center is under the purview of the College’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the dialogue will take place as a live video webinar. The virtual event is free and open to the public. To pre-register, go to www.dccc.edu/dialogues.
