West Whiteland Township has issued reminders to residents and businesses about snow removal procedures for the coming winter months. The township emphasized that ordinances require proper snow clearing and adherence to parking guidelines during snowfall.
Residents are asked to park in their driveways rather than on streets or cul-de-sacs from two hours after continuous snowfall begins until plowing is complete. The township noted that parked cars, especially those positioned perpendicular to the curb in cul-de-sacs, make it difficult for plows to clear snow effectively. To ensure efficient snow removal, all neighborhood streets should be kept free of vehicles.
Property owners, tenants, and businesses must clear sidewalks adjacent to their properties and any areas around fire hydrants within 24 hours of a snow event. Placing snow or ice into public streets, gutters, or sewer inlets is prohibited by township rules.
Additionally, residents are reminded not to pile snow around fire hydrants or create mounds that limit visibility for drivers. Obstacles such as basketball nets should be removed from roadways, and trash and recycling bins should be placed between the curb and sidewalk instead of on the street.
The township encourages community members to report any issues related to snow using an online form or by calling 610-363-9525.
“Please park in your driveways – not on streets or cul-de-sacs – from two hours after the start of a continuous snowfall until the snow has been completely plowed.”
“While cars should not be parked in cul-de-sacs during significant snowfall, it is especially difficult for the plows to clear the snow when cars are parked perpendicular to the curb in a cul-de-sac. For best results, please keep all neighborhood streets clear of cars.”
“Owners or tenants and businesses are responsible for clearing the snow from the sidewalk adjacent to each property, as well as any snow around a fire hydrant that is on each property, within 24 hours of the snow event. Snow and ice may not be placed into public streets, gutters or sewer inlets.”
“Do not pile snow around fire hydrants or to a height that limits sight distance for vehicles.”
“Remove obstacles such as basketball nets from the roadway. Make sure trash and recycling bins are between the curb and sidewalk, not in the street.”
