DELAWARE COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE: 11th Consecutive Year Delaware County Community College Named Great College to Work For™ in Nationwide Survey

Antonio

Delaware County Community College issued the following announcement.

For the eleventh consecutive year, The Chronicle of Higher Education, a national higher education trade publication, has named Delaware County Community College as a Great College to Work For™, and this year the College also was named to the 2020 Honor Roll, a special recognition for standout institutions. The honorees were officially announced today by ModernThink LLC, which selects  based on a national survey it compiles and oversees on behalf of The Chronicle of Higher Education.

“Satisfied employees are essential to providing a nurturing, caring, educational environment for our students, allowing them to fully achieve their personal goals,” said Dr. L. Joy Gates Black, president of Delaware County Community College. “This recognition is especially significant this year because it is a testament to the student-centered, caring atmosphere our faculty and staff worked collaboratively to create and achieve, undaunted by the major challenge of the current pandemic.”

Delaware County Community College is one of only 79 institutions recognized this year. A total of 221 institutions participated, including 127 four-year institutions and 94 two-year schools. Of the 79 institutions recognized as 2020 Great Colleges to Work For®, 54 were four-year schools and 25 were two-year schools.

Only 42 colleges made it onto the 2020 Honor Roll, recognized as standouts in their size categories. Although Delaware County Community College has received Honor Roll status before in 2011, 2014 and 2016, this year is the first time the College received Honor Roll recognition in all of the categories for which it was eligible.

“The institutions participating in the 2020 Great Colleges to Work For® program deserve special kudos for their commitment to being good stewards of institutional culture and workplace quality,” said Richard K. Boyer, principal and managing partner, ModernThink LLC. “In the face of unprecedented uncertainty, their commitment to faculty/staff engagement never wavered. In particular, institutions recognized in this year’s program as Great Colleges to Work For® prove that it is possible to be a great workplace even in the face of disruption, uncertainty and limited resources.”

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies from each institution; and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.

The nationwide survey rates colleges on 12 categories. If a school is highly rated across multiple categories, in addition to the Great College to Work For® recognition, the school also is named a 2020 Honor Roll institution. Recognized colleges are officially announced in a special insert in the September 18th issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education.

In 2018, Delaware County Community College was recognized in three categories. In 2019, the College was recognized in five categories. This year, the College was named an Honor Roll institution and recognized in 11 of the 12 categories, with the 12th category (Tenure Clarity & Process) only pertaining to four-year colleges. The 11 categories for which the College received Honor Roll recognition include: Collaborative Governance; Compensation & Benefits; Confidence in Senior Leadership; Diversity; Facilities, Workspace & Security; Job Satisfaction; Professional/Career Development Programs; Respect & Appreciation; Supervisor/Department Chair Relationship; Teaching Environment (Faculty Only); and Work/Life Balance.

The survey results are reported for small (500 to 2,999 students), medium (3,000 to 9,999 students) and large institutions (10,000 or more students). Great Colleges to Work For™ is one of the largest and most-respected higher education workplace recognition programs in the country. ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm, administered the survey and analyzed the results. To view the specific survey results, visit greatcollegesprogram.com/List.
