Immaculata University issued the following announcement.
It is hard to believe that we are now in the fourth week of the coronavirus era of social distancing. It also seems like it has been an eternity since we entered this new reality. Unfortunately, with no changes in direction from federal and state authorities, faculty, staff and students must remain off-campus until further notice.
Despite this disappointing news, the following updates outline our next steps.
RESIDENCE LIFE AND HOUSING
Staff will contact resident students with information to retrieve any remaining personal items from campus.
COMMENCEMENT
We share the disappointment that our 2020 graduates are feeling with their final semester completely disrupted. All across our nation, accommodations are being made to combat the spread of this deadly virus. In keeping with the containment strategy of Pennsylvania’s Governor Wolf, Immaculata University’s commencement ceremonies planned for May 15-17 will be rescheduled. We will notify graduates at least 45 days prior to the new dates, which will be based on information by federal and state authorities to determine the safety of public gatherings.
Graduating students pay a Graduation Fee when they apply to graduate, which covers the ceremony, diplomas and the diploma covers. Recognizing the impact of the decision to postpone the commencement ceremonies, we have reduced the fee by 50% for this year for August 2019, January 2020 and May 2020 graduates.
Please note if you applied for May graduation and complete all degree requirements, your degree will be conferred on May 17, 2020. Your official transcript will be available via National Student Clearinghouse online ordering center on May 19, 2020. Your diploma will be held and distributed during the Commencement ceremony.
ROOM AND BOARD ADJUSTMENTS
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we took the necessary time to develop student account adjustments for the Spring 2020 semester.
The University will reduce Spring Room and Board charges by approximately 50% to reflect the number of days that students were not able to be on campus. The Room & Board adjustment will be posted to students’ accounts May 14-19. The return of any credit balances will be generated May 20 and available for direct deposit May 22. Paper checks will be mailed on May 22. Students without direct deposit accounts will receive a check sent to the home address we have on record. We strongly encourage students to sign up for direct deposit by accessing SSIU through the MyIU portal.
SUMMER COURSES
All courses scheduled for the summer will be entirely remote/online.
EASTER HOLIDAY
The entire University will be closed to observe the Easter holiday from April 9 through April 13. Staff and faculty will be available again on Tuesday, April 14.
LOOKING FORWARD
At my invitation, Archbishop Perez will visit Immaculata University on September 3, 2020 to celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit. It will be an honor to have the Archbishop meet with the Immaculata community, and we are hopeful that by September the era of social distancing will be over.
I hope that you all are being safe and staying well. Once again, I want to thank our faculty and staff for all their efforts to ensure that our students are well served during this challenging time. I wish all of you and your families a very happy and healthy Easter.
