Chrissy Houlahan, a U.S. Congress member representing Pennsylvania’s 6th district since 2019, has voiced her opposition to H.R. 1, a bill formerly known as the “Big Beautiful Bill”. On July 2, 2025, she expressed concerns via social media regarding the potential impact of the bill on healthcare and tax breaks for billionaires.
In her first post of the day, Houlahan criticized the proposed legislation, stating that it would end healthcare for approximately 483,868 Pennsylvanians in exchange for tax breaks benefiting billionaires. She labeled this outcome as “unacceptable” and declared her intention to vote against the bill.
Later that afternoon, she shared another update regarding procedural issues surrounding the bill. Houlahan pointed out that Republicans were not considering amendments aimed at preventing cuts to Medicaid and SNAP programs. She emphasized her commitment alongside fellow House Democrats to oppose the bill vigorously.
Further emphasizing her stance against H.R. 1, Houlahan posted a third message expressing solidarity with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. In this brief post, she reiterated her position by stating: “I couldn’t agree more, @GovernorShapiro and I will be voting NO.”
Chrissy Houlahan has served in Congress since replacing Ryan Costello in 2019. Born in Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland in 1967, she currently resides in Devon and holds a degree from Stanford University.
