Chrissy Houlahan, a U.S. Congress member representing Pennsylvania’s 6th district since 2019, addressed several concerns regarding food assistance programs in a series of tweets. The tweets, posted on April 16, 2025, focus on recent funding cuts made by the Trump Administration and their impact on local farmers and food banks.
Houlahan initiated her discussion by highlighting the impact on American farmers, stating, “The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) uses 100% American-grown foods, meaning our country’s farmers are also losing essential contracts they rely on. The Trump Administration also cut over $1 billion in funding for the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement.”
She continued by citing specific repercussions for Chester County, mentioning, “The Trump Administration’s LFPA slashes have resulted in another $145,000 cut to the Chester County’s Food Bank, further restricting the bank’s ability to serve the most food-insecure members our community. Apart from her congressional duties, Houlahan has roots in Maryland, where she was born at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River in 1967. She currently resides in Devon, Pennsylvania. A Stanford University graduate, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree, having completed her studies in 1989.
